Best of Friends

from Poets, Philosophers, Workers, & Wanderers

There have been times when I was lost

When I could not bear the cost

Of the choices I’d made

There were moments when I cried

When everything I tried

Seemed to fall down in flames

Then your smile came my way

And you brightened up my day

The way that you do

The way that only you can do

Chorus

And I thank you, my precious friend

For the good times that we’ve seen

And the spaces in between

And I thank you

For the way that you believe in my dreams

That is what the best of friends will do

When my fears begin to rise

Well you take me by surprise

With a good laugh or two (and don’t you know I need it)

When I get lost inside my head

Full of worries full of dread

That I’m sure will come true (and I just can’t let it go)

Then your voice comes on the line

You reassure me one more time

The way that you do

The way that only you can do

Though I know that it’s been said

I’ll say it once again

That the journey has been easier

Because you are my friend

That’s the kind of friend I try to be for you

That is what the best of friends will do
